Oyunohara 大斎原

The Kumano Hongu Taisha Kyushachi Oyunohara is the former original site of Kumano Hongu Taisha.
It is located 0.5km to the southeast of the present location of the shrine on the sandbank of the Kumano River.
Still now there remains the foundation platform of the 19th century, which is stonework of cut stones.
The surrounding forests are also important as an archeological site related to the Shinto-Buddhist fusion, where there used to be Buddhist structures such as stupas and halls for Goma burning rituals.

From JR Shingu station, it takes 100 minutes by bus to the “Hongu Taisha Mae” bus stop.(Y.N)
