The lotus pond is the biggest pond in Koysan, the origin goes back to the
Heian period.
Long ago it was called Kondo pond, but after lotus plant in Edo period,
it was called lotus pond .
There were covered with lotus on lake surface, but because of repairs the
ecology of the pond changed and there are almost no lotuses left today.
There is a shrine on the center of the lake for Zennyo Ryuo , which enshrines
a queen of the Naga. The Naga is kind of Dragon god.
The god had a special power when monks prayed for rain for everybody, the
Dragon god realized blessed rain after a long spell of dry weather .
